Bio
Samir Hafez is the West Michigan Legal Fellow at the ACLU of Michigan. He grew up in Michigan and received his undergraduate degrees in International Studies and Spanish, with a minor in Anthropology, from the University of Michigan, and his law degree from the University of California, Irvine School of Law.
While in law school, Samir worked with UCI Law’s Immigrant & Racial Justice Solidarity Clinic, where he supported litigation challenging immigration enforcement tactics in Southern California and advised faith institutions on interactions with immigration enforcement. He completed internships with the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project’s Asylum Unit, where he supported asylum seekers, and Bet Tzedek Legal Services’ Employment Rights Project, where he advocated for undocumented and low-income workers facing wage theft, retaliation, workplace discrimination, and other employment-related issues. Samir also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Sunshine Sykes of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
