Amelia Velez, daughter of Sodus principal Andres Velez, says she'd most like a new sports field for the school. Currently, the "River School," as Sodus is known, has a modest swing set and an antiquated baseball arena. Its sports facilities back up to farm and logging land.
Andres Velez stands inside the Sodus school's new gabled roof. As principal, superintendent, maintenance director and lunchroom supervisor in the Sodus district, Velez wears multiple hats.
Once used as the kitchen at the school, this space is now used to hold a combined kindergarten/first grade class. Every space at The River School is of value. It is still used as a kitchen to cater select events.
