DETROIT -- Today the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan (ACLU) sent a letter to Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper urging no criminal charges to be filed against high school students following alleged fights at a Nov. 23, 2019 football game between Denby High School and Almont High School. According to media reports, Denby football players took a knee during the national anthem leading to many reported and disputed allegations including racial slurs, fights, and unnecessary roughness.

The ACLU asks Prosecutor Cooper to not pursue criminal charges against students, and especially to not criminally charge only African American students from Denby High School, given serious social and racial implications.
