DETROIT -- Today the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan (ACLU) with the State Appellate Defender Office (SADO) sent letters statewide to Michigan's chief judges and county sheriffs to release vulnerable people from jail immediately to protect the health of those incarcerated and staff amidst the COVID-19 crisis. This follows Governor Gretchen Whitmer's executive order issued on March 29 which underscores the life-or-death threat this pandemic poses to people incarcerated in Michigan's jails, the staff, and community at large.
