Michigan Voting Rights Advocates: Today is National Voter Registration Day!

National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a nonpartisan civic holiday dedicated to strengthening our democracy, is being celebrated today. Launched in 2012, the day has been used to get more than 6.5 million Americans registered to vote.

“National Voter Registration Day involves dedicated partners of every stripe from all over the country hitting the streets for a single star-spangled awesome day of coordinated field, digital, and media action focused squarely on growing our shared democracy,” according to NVRD organizers.

It is a day of civic unity and, as the organizers explain, “an opportunity to set aside differences; enjoy the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities we all share as Americans; and celebrate our democracy together.”

Michigan’s Nonpartisan Election Protection Program, made up of more than 60 voting rights organizations, is a nonpartisan, pro-voter program dedicated to eliminating barriers and ensuring that every eligible Michigan voter can access the ballot box. This National Voter Registration Day, we encourage everyone to check their registration and make a plan to vote - today is the ideal day to do so!
