Across the state, local clerks, their staff, and election workers strive to make sure every eligible voter can cast a ballot – and every vote is counted. Local clerks recruit community members to be poll workers, maintain polling locations, and carry out the checks and balances that protect every ballot.
Elections belong to the people. Every eligible voter should have equal say in the decisions that impact our lives. Know your voting rights. Practice your voting rights.
Michigan voters fought hard to enshrine abortion and voting rights in our state constitution through citizen-led ballot measures.
A constitutional convention could roll back this progress and allow wealthy special interests to come into our state and influence what to add – and remove – from our state constitution.
Michigan voters currently have the power to make changes to our constitution. Let’s keep it that way – vote NO on Proposal 1.
Michigan’s constitution requires that a question automatically appear on the ballot every 16 years, asking voters whether they want a constitutional convention. That is why Proposal 1 is on this year’s November 3rd General Election ballot. If approved, 148 delegates would be selected to add or remove constitutional amendments or write a new Michigan Constitution altogether, without oversight from voters.
That means that wealthy, corporate-backed special interests, could intervene and influence the rewriting of our constitution, with little to no guardrails or transparency, and eliminate rights Michiganders fought for, like abortion and voting rights.
In 2022, Michiganders overwhelmingly passed a ballot measure that amended our state constitution to include the fundamental right to reproductive freedom for all Michiganders in our state constitution.
A constitutional convention could do away with what Michiganders voted for, rolling back our reproductive rights and access to abortion care. Holding a constitutional convention opens a pandora’s box of negative consequences — putting hard won protections like the right to legal, safe abortion at risk and giving special interests a chance to push changes Michiganders never asked for. Vote NO on Proposal 1.
YES.
Michigan is a national leader in secure, transparent, and accessible elections thanks to the voters that fought hard to improve access to the ballot over the last decade – including giving voters the right to vote absentee and nine days of early, in-person voting before Election Day.
Our voting rights are already under attack on multiple fronts; a constitutional convention would put them at a greater risk, and we won’t let that happen. Vote NO on Proposal 1.
