Elvira joined the ACLU of Michigan as the Program Associate in our West Michigan Regional Office in June 2016. Where she supports the West Michigan Regional Office and staff.
Before joining the ACLU Elvira advocated for patients at Spectrum Health dealing with the Marketplace, Medicaid, and Financial Assistance, specifically the immigrant, uninsured patients.
Having navigated the immigration process herself and coming from a migrant farmworker family, Elvira became a strong advocate for farmworkers in immigration matters, working at Farmworker Legal Services, Catholic Human Development Outreach and Varnum law firm. Her most recent direct immigration service was at the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan where she started their BIA Accredited Program at the start of the DACA program. During her tenure at the Hispanic Center Elvira served immigrants from around the world with consultations, family reunifications, naturalizations and more.
Elvira continues to be a strong community advocate as she co-chairs the Sparta Area Migrant Resource Council and participates on the Advisory Board for Farmworker Legal Services. Elvira handles the stresses of advocacy by enjoying traveling, cross-stitching and watching football games.
