Nara is the Immigrant Rights Legal Coordinator at the ACLU of Michigan. In this role, she supports the Immigrant Justice Partnership by coordinating immigration-related intake, identifying systemic abuses, and advancing litigation and advocacy efforts to protect immigrant communities across the state.
Nara has extensive experience in immigration law, including family, employment, and humanitarian-based immigration, impact litigation, and legislative advocacy. Prior to rejoining the ACLU, she served as a Staff Attorney with the Training and Systemic Impact team at the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, where she developed resources and strategies to support systemic change. She also provided direct legal services and led immigrant rights advocacy initiatives at the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit and Michigan United.
Nara earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, where she served as President of both the Immigration Law Association and the American Constitution Society, receiving multiple awards for leadership, advocacy, and academic excellence. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Leadership from the University of Detroit Mercy.
As an immigrant herself, Nara is deeply committed to immigrant justice and systemic advocacy. Her experience as an attorney, director, and organizer gives her a comprehensive understanding of the legal landscape and fuels her passion for expanding equitable access to legal resources.
