As each of us wrestle with our own anxieties and fears about the health and well-being of family and friends in this unsettling time, we are reminded of how closely connected we are to one another through our immediate communities and across the globe. We also recognize that in times of emergency, many people on the edges of society are often left behind.

Right to Life of Michigan says it has cleared a significant hurdle in its attempt to outlaw an abortion procedure known as “dilation and evacuation,” which is the medically preferred method for abortion care at or about 14 or 15 weeks.  

Despite strong public support for reproductive freedom, Michigan legislators have joined efforts to drastically curtail access to abortions or overturn Roe vs. Wade completely.

You’ve seen the news. Missouri has joined Georgia, Ohio and Alabama in passing extreme bans that criminalize doctors and make abortion a felony.  

Once again, your lawmakers in Lansing are pushing a package of bills that would endanger women’s lives by ending their access to reproductive healthcare throughout our state.

Monday will go down in history as day of celebration. In a total victory for reproductive freedom, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decisive ruling on Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt, the most important abortion rights case before the high court in over 20 years. 

Unfortunately, it’s increasingly a common story. A woman who is expecting a baby rushes to the hospital knowing that something is going horribly awry. Her heart rate is elevated, and she is bleeding. Sadly, the pregnancy is doomed. Crying and upset, she realizes she needs an abortion because she knows the pregnancy won’t make it to term. And she knows she is getting sicker.
