Today, Sterling Heights will vote on an ordinance that would protect its citizens from discrimination, banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, public accommodations, and housing.
You and I both know Sterling Heights is a diverse community, which respects the rights of all its residents. Now we have a chance to show it.
Sterling Heights would be the first city in Macomb County to pass an LGBT-inclusive ordinance.
Passing this ordinance is especially important, since Michigan's state civil rights act doesn't extend protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
We know that an overwhelming majority of Michigan residents support updating our laws, and many communities across Michigan have already acted. Let’s keep the momentum going!

I am contacting you today as a concerned resident, asking you to support the non-discrimination ordinance being considered by the Sterling Heights City Council.
Sterling Heights is a diverse community where the rights of all its residents should be protected and I support this ordinance because it would ban discrimination in employment, public accommodations and housing for any reason, including sexual orientation or gender identity.
There are 35 municipalities across the state with similar anti-discrimination ordinances, and I urge you to make Sterling Heights the first in Macomb County to join the list. Thank you.
