Michigan Supreme Court Hears Case of Mother Jailed for Being Too Poor to Pay Child Support

The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan and the University of Michigan Innocence Clinic asked the state’s Supreme Court today to overturn the felony conviction of a Detroit woman who was too poor to pay more than $1,100 a month in child support.

ACLU, Genesee County Parks Finalize Settlement in Petitioning Lawsuit

DETROIT – A federal judge signed a final order late yesterday afternoon permanently barring Genesee County Parks from enforcing a rule that prohibited volunteers from the Committee to Recall Governor Snyder from petitioning anywhere in a 135-acre park except an isolated, 3-foot by 3-foot square.
