February 20, 2011 - The Downriver League got our message loud and clear — female athletes deserve equal treatment.

Earlier this season the league attempted to save money by cutting the number of referees for girls basketball games, while leaving boys games untouched.

Not only did this violate federal civil rights laws, but it sent a troubling message to students that girls don't measure up.

Luckily, the league recognized its mistake after the ACLU reminded the schools that it's unfair and illegal to balance budgets at the expense of female athletes only.
